Economic Feasibility
The KOPF process allows for a sustainable valorisation of sewage sludge, which makes sense also from the viewpoint of economics. Even the last step in the process chain of sewage disposal is done at the sewage works, as sewage sludge is being valorised energetically and materially. Material and energy flows form closed circular processes. The mineral granulate as solid end product of waste water cleaning becomes a commodity. Heat and electricity from gasification and heat-power station come available at the sewage works and need not be purchased from external suppliers. The vision of a sewage works which is autarchic for energy and disposal becomes reality. The total cost of disposal is lower than with other thermal ways of disposal, such as, for example, co-combustion in a waste incineration plant. Due to the independence of external utility providers a cost efficient disposal is permanently secured.
Process
The key component of the KOPF gasification process is the gasification reactor, where in a stationary fluidised bed at temperatures up to 900°C combustible gas is produced from dried sewage sludge. In the raw gas quench, it is cooled down and subsequently it is worked up further by filtering and drying. In a block type heat-power system, it used to produce electricity and heat. After a retention time of 30 minutes, the sewage sludge has been reduced to an inert granule. It has a high content of valuable phosphorus, which can be extracted with new processes, as a main ingredient of fertilizers. What remains is an inert mineral granulate, which offers a variety of application possibilities such as, for example, the making of asphalt or as filler material in street building and landscaping.
System solution
At the end of the process chain, volume has been reduced and a valuable product has come available For the decentralised energetical and material valorisation of sewage sludge, operators of medium sized sewage works now have a convincing option being the KOPF gasification process. The patented process turns sewage sludge into energy and a valuable product and degrades the characteristic freight of pollutants. Economical feasibility is given for plants as small as 1000 tonnes sewage sludge dry matter per year, which corresponds with 50,000 inhabitant-equivalents. Up scaled variants of the process up to fourfold throughput are feasible without any restriction.
Drag Chain Conveyors
Drag Chain Conveyors are ideal in transporting powdered and dusty materials. These types of materials are common ingredients or results of processes in places such as copper and nickel smelters, chemical and fertilizer factories, soda recovery plants and power plants. Other applications for drag chain conveyors are transportation of soft and light materials, i.e. saw dust, wood chips or solid fuels like peat or coal. Continuous and efficient material flow is the key to a process without any unnecessary interruptions, thus ensuring high-quality end products and first-class profitability. With Kopar products you can economically and reliably feed, screen, crush and transport various types of materials, from wood chips to copper concentrate and from ash to hazardous waste.
Hazardous Waste Treatment
Kopar staff has participated in the project execution and manufacturing of nine European hazardous waste treatment plants which annually produce over 300 000 tons of wastes into stable and controllable form. For hazardous waste treatment plants Kopar offers Solid waste feeding devices Incineration kilns Secondary combustion chambers Wet slag conveyors Ash conveyors In the supply of large rotary drums and kilns, Kopar cooperates with Hollming Works. Hollming Works is a large Finnish engineering & manufacturing company, with a division in Parkano. The workshops of each company are located almost side by side which makes cooperation flexible and easy.
ROTARY TABLE FILTERS
Rotary Table Filters (RTF) are used to filter NaClO3 as well as other heavy salts and sludge, particularly when efficient multistage cake washing is necessary. The cake is formed by feeding solids and mother liquid to the feed box and by spreading the solids smoothly on the filter surface by an adjustable plough. The cake is washed in several lines and discharged by means of a screw and pressurized air. A thin layer of cake is left on the filter surface to form a pre-coat media, which improves filtering and protects the table surface. The filter is driven by a variable speed drive through a reduction and girth gear. The table runs on a horizontal guide roller bearing. The normal rotation speeds are 0,1 – 0,6 rpm and 0,2 – 1,2 rpm. The filter is also equipped with a tight hood into which hot air can be blown to raise the dry substance content. Kopar Rotary Table Filter is designed for easy running and to stand up to wear
SLAG CRUSHERS
Crushers can be used in crushing materials that are cloddy but still easily degradable. The crushers come in two types: rotor type, which is often used as a primary crusher and roller type, the secondary crusher after which the material can be pneumatically transported. Typical materials that are crushed by rotor and roller crushers are waste heat boiler slag, dust lumps and other materials with clods or lumps formed in the processes. Maximum capacity for these crushers is 20 t/h and when placed consecutively, first rotor crusher, then roller crusher, a final product of 5 x 5 mm can be achieved from a maximum feed size of 300 mm. Cooling by water, pressurized air or steam is possible when required.
