The general manager of the Serbian Power Supply Company, Dragomir Marković, said that, for the purpose of system recovery and increase of coal accumulation reserves, the import of electricity continued and amounted to more than 20 million kilowatt hours daily. Electricity is being imported from Hungary mostly and the maximal daily value totals three million euros. The electricity consumption in Serbia early this week dropped by some five to six million kilowatt hours in comparison with the previous week, which is mostly due to the restriction measures applied in small and medium-sized industries. Power consumption in households has slightly risen, though. The key problem, however, is the very poor hydrological situation, which has lasted a year now and is making Serbian hydro electric power plants operate at merely 25% of their full capacity. Another serious problem is deficiency in crude oil, the transport of which is very difficult now, emphasized Marković, adding that new supplies of that fuel have been agreed upon with NIS (Serbian Power Industry).
