On July 18, 2014, BASF had inaugurated the new production plant for mobile emissions catalyst in a Special Economic zone new Wroclaw Poland. The biggest opening event was attended by a number of local and national government officials that include BASF Board member, Dr. Hans-Ulrich Engel and Polish vice Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jacek Mecina.
The construction of the new 40,000 square meter manufacturing facility began in late 2102, this was supported by an initial investment worth €90 million. In April 2014, the plant began its production trials and it started for about two emission catalysts manufacturing lines last month, having an initial 100 employees.
Some additional expansions will follow that will raise the total investment for the plant to about €150 million. BASF is expecting to employ up to 400 people once the planned heavy duty and light duty catalyst production lines operate at full capacity.
The manufacturer of the heavy-duty diesel vehicles and light duty gasoline vehicles will be using the emission catalyst in order to meet the strict regulations of the Euro 6/VI emissions. Based on the statement of Kenneth Lane, the President of BASF’s catalyst division, the launch of the newest production plant will play an important role in the innovative emissions control technologies in the manufacturing industry. He also added that the strict stringent regulations will probably be the key to the development and improvement of their business.
The Środa Śląska facility will produce advance technologies such as cutting-edge SCR on Filter or SCRoF solutions, Selective Reduction or SCR system and the PremAir branded ozone destruction catalyst for the automotive applications.
The head of the BASF Business Center Europe Central, Dr. Joachim Meyer, said that the Poland nowadays has become an attractive place for BSAF to invest because of its positive economic development and attractive location. He also added that the new facility is strengthening their position as the key supplier for these innovative solutions to most of the markets in across Central Europe.
