PRAGUE (CIA) – Last year Czechs threw away 1.8 mln old mobile phones. They only handed in a little more than 100,000 fixed line phones for liquidation; this is the lowest number reported in the past 15 years. This stems from data provided by REMA System, which collects and liquidates old electrical equipment.
Last year people got rid of roughly 140,000 tons of old electrical appliances and devices. Less than half of this, less than 60,000 tons, was disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. This represents an increase on the almost 44,000 tons reported in 2008 thanks to an increase in the number of collection points.
