EDF plans to invest €300m in the modernization of its Rybnik coal-fired power plant in Poland.
The 1,800 MW facility was initially expected to shut down in 2018 but EDF's investment should enable to comply with the European environmental norms on SOx and NOx emissions as of 2016. The modernized power plant could also operate for a further 15 years. This modernization program makes very unlikely the revival of a supercritical power project in Rybnik, which was shelved in December 2012.
