State-owned oil refiner Orlen has discovered gas underneath its own land in the Lubelskie voivodship. Seismic tests suggest that there is enough gas to allow Poland to become gas-independent, and even to become a net exporter of the fuel. “We have confirmed what we had assumed. We have already explored the most promising areas,” Wiesław Prugar, the head of Orlen's upstream division, told Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. The full results will be released in October. In the autumn the company will decide whether to invest more than zł.100 million in exploring the area. Orlen is now looking for strategic partners. It has already signed 15 letters of intent with companies including Lane Energy, Southwestern Energy, as well as Eni and Shell. (RG) |
