According to Slovakian National Panel, a web –based public opinion research panel, no less than one type of waste material is recycled by at least 88% Slovakians, the most often recycled item is plastics and paper,this is closely followed by glass.
500 active internet users age between 18-65 years participated in the research. ‘98% of the population recycled plastics, 90% papers and 86% glasses, the Slovakian national panel representative, Rudolf Dymák reported, according to information from TASR newswire.
Nearly half of the respondents engage in recycling of materials, tetra packs is recycled by more than one third, constituting 38% of the respondents and one in three of the respondents recycle organic waste.Finding of the research also shows that recycling is approach with the same attitude by both male and females and participation in recycling increases with people’s age.
Only 81% of the age group 18-24 recycles, while more than 95% of the aged -group above 55 engage in recycling. Just about 12% of the entire population do not engage in recycling, and the reason cited by half of this group for their non-participation in recycling is lack of the right containers for recycling in their neighbourhoods. The second biggest group of those not recycling shown serious concerns to the problems they are causing by storing wastes. 15% are of the opinion that recycling wastes their time and 13% agreed that they do not recycled because of their laziness.
