The Lithuanian government has approved the construction of the 450-km NordBalt interconnection project, that will link the country's electricity grid to that of Sweden by 2015.
The undersea cable will have a capacity of 700 MW and will be the world's third longest undersea line, with switching stations in Klaipeda, Lithuania, and Nybro, Sweden. The €550m project is co-financed by the European Union.
