The EU's new president, Herman Van Rompuy, and foreign minister, Catherine Ashton, are a good choice for the Czech Republic, PM Jan Fischer said after the EU summit on Thursday. "These are people who have a close relation to us. I am convinced that all of them have the competence and pre-requisites for doing very well in the posts," he said. Karel Schwarzenberg, former Czech foreign minister, was more cautious in assessing Ashton. "Let's wait and see how she will do in this new difficult role."
