Poland is one of Europe's windiest locations, according to latest Wind Review from the UK's Met Office. According to the report, much of Europe experienced winds above the long-term average, especially the British Isles, Western and Central Europe. The main exceptions to this were far Eastern Europe and Iberia.
The Met Office analyzed wind performance of 15 European regions, measuring the wind speed in the winter 2011/2012 season compared to long term average, last year's season, and previous 12 months.
Poland has turned out to be one of the Europe's most promising locations, with winter season 2011/2012 wind speed up by seven percent against the long term average, 13 percent comparing to last year's season, and 34 percent compared to previous 12 months.
Germany, North Sea, Benelux, Denmark, Italy, and British Isles came above Poland in the report.
"A good part of the season was characterised by strong west to northwesterly winds. A series of Atlantic depressions spread across Northern and Central Europe, with only brief ‘blocking areas’ of high pressure that mainly affected southern and eastern parts. The lack of obstructions from high pressure zones and frequency of Atlantic depressions spreading across Europe explains why much of the region was windier than usual," the Met Office explained.
