Moldova to raise the share of RES from 6 % to 20 %

The National Program for Energy Efficiency and RES foresees an increase in the share of RES in total energy consumption from 6 % (2010) to 20 % by 2020.

The program was adopted by the government to raise the energy security of Moldova. Biofuel consumption is planned to increase by 10% and the total energy consumption shall drop 20 %. At the same time, green house gas emissions are supposed to decrease by at least 25%. The Energy Efficieny Agency is responsible for the implementation of the National Program. Projects can be financed by the National Energy Efficiency Fund as well as through external funds, namely through European Commission grants, EBRD special tranches and other international organizations. The National Program also calls for trained energy managers and EE company audits.
