World Bank’s board of administration announced a € 142,9 M loan for the realization of the “Project on Energy Efficiency in Ukraine”.
The loan will be granted for investments in energy saving programmes conducted by the industry sector, municipalities and state-run companies, as well as utility companies.
The project aims at supporting Ukraine to reduce energy intensities by 20 % until 2015 and 50 % by 2030 respectively. Furthermore it contributes to decreasing the country’s dependencies in gas imports thus lowering energy prices, contributing to overall energy security.
National World Bank director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, Martin Raiser states: “The energy efficiency potential of Ukraine is enormous. If Ukraine lowers its energy intensity to a level of a country like Poland, energy consumption would drop by one third. This also translates into a decrease of gas imports by 30 %.
