Mariusz Kawnik, energy attaché at Poland's permanent representation to the EU, said that seeking progress in the area of renewable energy "remains one of the key issues on the agenda" of the forthcoming EU presidency.
As of July 1st, Poland takes over the six-month rotating presidency, this is the first time the Central European country will be at the helm of the EU.
Kawnik was speaking in Brussels at a debate to highlight solar energy's contribution to Europe's energy independence and security of supply. The event was organised as part of the European solar days campaign.
The aim, it was said, is to demonstrate that solar energy constitutes a "viable" alternative energy source to fossil fuels, such as oil and gas. Source: www.ebrdrenewables.com
