Project description and objectives:
|
The EBRD is considering lending up to EUR 5.4 million loan to the Bishkek Water Company to assist the company to replace water pipes and submersible pumps; drill new boreholes; install water meters; and, acquire equipment for pipe-laying, maintenance and repairs.
|
Transition impact:
|
- Technical co-operation to help the Bishkek Water Company to identify and implement measures to improve its financial and operational performance.
- A new tariff policy will be developed to reform the current system to enable the company to cover its costs while protecting low income families from hardship.
- Skills and knowledge transfer will take place during project preparation and implementation plus training and new skills will be provided directly by the technical co-operation programmes.
- The operation will have an important demonstration effect as an example of co-operation between a Kyrgyz municipality, an IFI, and a donor to finance an environmental project.

Screened B/1. The project is intended to improve the quality and reliability of municipal water supply in Bishkek. The project will also reduce unaccounted-for-water and reduce energy consumption by the Bishkek Water Company.

Pre-signing
- Financial, technical and environmental due diligence - financed by the Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency.
Post-signing
- Support to the Project Implementation Unit including Engineering Design and Construction Supervision Services – donor funding to be identified
- Corporate Development Programme, Master Planning, and Stakeholder Participation Programme – donor funding to be identified.
