The Ukrainian government has approved the feasibility study of a $1bn LNG terminal project. The study should be finalized by December 2012, with the construction of the first line of the terminal to start in 2013. The LNG terminal project would be built in the Odessa region, on the Black Sea cost and would be commissioned in 2015. It would have a regasification capacity of 5 bcm/year, that could be increased to 10 bcm/year at a later stage.
Ukraine aims to diversify its gas import sources and to decrease the price of imported gas by 15% to 20%.
