Lietuvos Dujos, Lithuania's natural gas company (34% Gazprom, 34% E.ON Ruhrgas), plans to invest about €380,000 in a joint venture with Gasum, the Finnish gas company, to operate a natural gas exchange.
Lietuvos Dujos will own 66% of the company, which will carry out the activities of a natural gas exchange in Lithuania and, at a later stage, in the entire Baltic region. Lietuvos Dujos is yet to obtain a license from the National Control Commission for Prices and Energy for the creation of a gas exchange in the country.
Lietuvos Dujos and Gasum earlier planned to launch the natural gas exchange in 2012.
Baltpool, a company owned by the electricity transmission system operator Litgrid, launched a natural gas exchange in Lithuania in early March, but no trading is taking place on it yet.
