Germany submitted a complaint to the European Union Commission over Poland's nuclear energy program, but was subsequently told that it will have to accept Poland's plan to invest in nuclear energy, reported Gazeta Prawna. In a statement, EU energy commissioner Günther Oettinger said that both countries will have to come to terms with each others' plans.
Poland plans to build two nuclear power stations by 2030, while German has plans to decommission all of its nuclear plants and cease using nuclear energy as a source of power.
The Polish government has already received over 30,000 emails from German citizens and environmental groups who stand in opposition to the construction of a power plant in Poland. Currently, 30 percent of the EU's energy comes from nuclear power.
