Photon Energy is stepping up its efforts to break into the expanding Eastern European solar market by building Poland’s largest rooftop array.
The 311kW system will be installed on a building owned by water utility Górnośląskie Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów (GPW) in the city of in Ruda Slaska and is due to go live in mid-2012. Photon Engineering will oversee engineering, technology procurement and on-site construction, while RenCraft won a recent public tender to design the record-breaking system. Financial backing is primarily coming from GPW.
Despite the absence any type of significant government incentive scheme, Poland is one of an ever-increasing number of countries in Eastern and Central Europe looking to develop solar. The Ministry of Economy is currently diversifying Poland’s renewables scheme and improving the legal conditions for developers, and such initiatives have already paved the way for the first large-scale installation – a 1.8MW system in Wierzchosławice.
