Wind energy is one of the few fields in Romania where investments hit a record high in 2010, with money being invested by giant energy groups.
Last year 200 windmills were installed accounting for investments of around € 800 M. Moreover, European statistical data show that in 2010 Romania ranked seventh in terms of newly installed capacity of wind power, with 448 MW, all in the Dobrogea area.
Long-term estimates do not seem any less optimistic for Romania, as according to the most cautious scenario the capacity installed in wind projects by 2015 is projected to go as high as 3,000 MW. Total investments would range between € 5 B. Overall, this would mean the installation of around 1,500 wind turbines.
