Compared to the traditional countries of the EU the recent EU entrants have a lot of catching up to do in regards to achieve convergence to meet with Environmental standards of the European Union.
Poland for example had made remarkable progress to meet the EU standards but it still has a long way to go. The priority issues that Cee-Environmental has identified are pollution prevention, waste water treatment, waste management, biodiversity and landscape protection.
The average Person in produces over 340 kg of waste per year the 592 kg and 612 kg so the waste per person is well below the EU average of 540 kg. lacks the technology to manage its Landfill sites as they do not meet the EU standards so rapid improvement is needed here and the need for Waste/Landfill handling technology is a clear priority. With Land prices well below the EU average the temptation to dump and not to recycle is apparent, the recovery rate for municipal waste is only 7% which is the lowest in the EU 27 so again the need for the integration of Waste Handling and Recycling storage solutions is much needed.
When speaking to Companies manufacturing recycling Technology generally the response is ‘’ Labor is cheap therefore it’s more cost effective to use people and not Technology to handle waste and recycling’’ of course there is an argument for this but this is a short term view and generally any company who ignores the potential of the Polish and CEE (Central and Eastern European) region is missing great opportunities across this region.
For Waste and Recycling Technology Manufacturers with in the EU there are great opportunities to sell to Polish companies and Municipal Authorities across the region who have received funding from the European Union cohesion fund and EU Environmental Fund. It’s estimated that will need to spend 2.75% of its GDP over the next 10 years to catch up with the EU standards and what has been agreed under the accession rules. The EU will do more to accelerate ’s ability to catch up and meet its commitment to meet the Environmental standards of the EU.
For Air Pollution and emission technology Poland is a Hugh market Over 90% of Poland’s electricity comes from coal fired power stations so the need for Clean coal technologies is massive and again Funding is available to help Poland meet its commitments to the EU 20/20/20 ' objectives on greenhouse gas emission reduction and renewable energies and meet its target of reducing emissions by 30%.
Cee-Environmental helps companies across all Environmental Technologies develop there business with in Central and Eastern Europe and our aim is to facilitate more trade between CEE counties and international suppliers. We are also a network of news and an Information resource helping business keep in touch with Developments with in the Central and Eastern Europe region.
