The official ceremony of signing the Loan Agreement between Ukraine and EBRD

On February 28, 2008 the official ceremony of signing the Loan Agreement (750 kV Rivne-Kyiv High Voltage Line Construction Project) between and EBRD took place in premises of the Presidential Secretariat of Ukraine in participation of Victor Yushchenko, the President of Ukraine.

The Loan Agreement was signed by Yuriy Prodan, the Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine, from the Ukrainian side, and by Jean Lemierre, the EBRD President, from the EBRD side.

On the same day the Project Agreement (750 kV Rivne-Kyiv High Voltage Line Construction Project) between NPC “Ukrenergo” and EBRD was signed by Kostiantyn Ushchapovskyi, Acting Director of NPC “Ukrenergo”, and Jean Lemierre, the EBRD President, in the premises of the EBRD permanent representation office in Kyiv.

The EBRD is providing the 150 million Euro Loan to Ukraine to be on-lent to the NPC “Ukrenergo” for implementation of 750 kV Rivne-Kyiv High Voltage Line Construction Project aimed at improving the efficiency, quality and reliability of electricity generation and transmission in Western and Central Ukraine. The implementation of the Project will help reduce losses and allow supply from existing excess generation capacity in Western Ukraine to reach Kyiv city and Central region. Besides, it will reduce ’s dependence on imported fuels and contribute to the interconnection of the Ukrainian power system with the Union for the Coordination of Transmission of Electricity (UCTE).
