The first project for emission reduction has been submitted by Russia to the UN-backed Joint Implementation (JI) carbon offsetting mechanism and at the same time increasing the number of projects authorized to issue carbon credits under the scheme,The Russian government has submitted its first project under the so called track 2 procedure according to the UN’s climate change secretariat, the project in question will see an energy-efficient combined cycle gas turbine installed at the Shaturskaya Thermal Power Plant near Moscow. The Shaturskaya Thermal Power Plant is 1 of 15 projects that have received the green light from the Russian Government at the end of July.
Cee-Environmental.com feels that this is a major set forward for Russia and encouraging that Russia is prepared to fulfill its Emission commitments.
