The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided SPV Plava Voda, a water company that services five municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina including; Zenica and Novi Travnik, with a loan of just under €11 million. This reads as good news for some quarter of a million citizens as two central cantons are planned to be improved. The Council of Europe Development Bank will also be contributing a similar amount as they look to improve the water services in the country.
The Infrastructure Projects Facility, a project set up by the European Union, will also be providing extra funding for technical assistance. The removal of risk of water leakages and the strengthening of the water utilities will be undertaken by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency with Germany also providing assistance during the early stages of the project.
The Plava Voda spring, which leads to the Putovici reservoir in Zenica, will see the majority of the action as ‘water intake structures’ are constructed.
