The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is funding the modernization of the waste management system in Iași, a county in north-eastern Romania, with a €5.2 million loans. The financing will co-finance the €55.9 million investment package geared towards raising the county’s waste management system to EU standards. The European Regional Development Fund is backing the project with a €37.6 million grant, whilst Romania alone is making contributions of €13.1 million. Under the investment program, the region will extend its primary landfill site whilst shutting down its environmental non-compliant waste facilities. The authorities will in addition purchase modern equipment for the collection and transportation of waste and all so build transfer and sorting stations. Click here to view the full original article
