WARSAW, Poland - A U.S. official says Washington is signing an agreement of co-operation with Poland aimed at intensifying co-operation between the two countries in the civil nuclear energy sector.
Poland plans to built its first nuclear power plants by 2020, and the deal being signed Tuesday should give U.S. companies a boost as they vie for contracts with competitors from France, South Korea and elsewhere.
Francisco Sanchez, the U.S. under secretary of commerce for international trade, said the agreement of co-operation does not obligate either side to any specific deal. He said Washington is determined to help Poland develop its civil nuclear program any way it can.
Sanchez spoke as he was heading to Poland's Economy Ministry to sign the agreement.
