Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) is a non-governmental, voluntary organisation uniting Latvian companies of different sectors. The aim of the organisation is to create favourable business environment, represent economic interests of Latvia's enterprises and offer business promotion services. LCCI represents business interests through a dialogue with national and local governments and participates in the drafting of commercial legislation in Latvia.
Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) was established on December, 1934. The task of the Chamber was to represent the interests of entrepreneurs in government and local government institutions, and international relationships. The Chamber consisted of 120 members, 90 from which were elected by associations, but others were appointed by the minister of relative sector. LCCI members represented 7 sectors – commerce, industry, shipping, transport, insurance, building and finance. There were compiled special commissions that represented the interests of concrete sector and helped to solve different problems of this sector. In 17 July, 1940 with establishment of Soviet government in Latvia, the USSR appointed minister announced the liquidation of the Chamber. Since 1948 Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry functioned as structural unit of Soviet Union Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Already six months after declaration of Independence in 4 May, 1990, the representatives of industrial and commercial enterprises decided to establish independent Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
